Truck Accident on Pennsylvania Highway Kills Student
A college student died in a major truck accident in Pennsylvania that also left an interstate closed for several hours.
According to the initial reports, a truck crossed the median of the interstate and in to oncoming traffic. The truck wound up smashing in to the driver’s side of a passenger vehicle. Additional reports about the accident said that the semi also hit another vehicle, although the driver of that vehicle was not physically injured. Likewise, the truck driver suffered no injuries.
The one victim in this case was an aspiring engineer who was coming in to his senior year of college. He was reportedly involved in a fraternity. His family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover their immediate expenses.
Police will no doubt continue to investigate this accident, but there has been no word about whether the truck driver will face a criminal charge or a traffic violation in connection with this incident.
Still, it is hard to understand why a truck driver would cross over the median of a major highway and in to oncoming traffic. The accident did happen during the overnight hours, and fatigued driving is a common problem among truckers.
However, any number of things could have caused this accident, including speeding, drunk or drugged driving, distracted driving, or even a preventable problem with the truck’s equipment or cargo.
In any event, after the aftermath of this tragedy, the family of the young man who died will likely have financial expenses and other losses because of this accident. They may be able to get compensation for some or all of these damages through an appropriate legal filing.
